Listening back to this recording, I thought, “Wow I sound like I’m thinking very hard to talk” lol. Talking on the radio is intimidating! And since the show is broadcast on terrestrial FM radio (which is very cool), I have to follow certain FCC regulations. Here’s hoping I’ll learn to loosen up a bit because I would like to talk more about the music. Some of my favorite radio hosts (like Flo Dill, Coco Maria) do a fair amount of banter, and while the focus is still on music, and it gives their curation a nice personal touch and places it in time.
For this mix’s theme, I took inspiration from a passage from one of my favorite novels, To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf:
For now she need not think of anybody. She could be herself, by herself. And that was what now she often felt the need of - to think; well not even to think. To be silent; to be alone. All the being and the doing, expansive, glittering, vocal, evaporated; and one shrunk, with a sense of solemnity, to being oneself, a wedge-shaped core of darkness, something invisible to others... and this self having shed its attachments was free for the strangest adventures.
This show was blessed by the voices of Anna Victoria, reading “Every day as a wide field, every page,” a poem by Naomi Shihab Nye; and Helen Hazelwood, reading an original poem titled “Is the moon your mother or your sister?”
Say, if you’re reading this, I would really a poetry reading by you. You can text or email me one at afrequentlyvisiteddream@gmail.com any time.
