Hey hi hello and a happy Juneteenth to you! Last week, I played a radio show that was a window into an hours long playlist I’ve been curating for the past 8 or so years called “WARM NIGHT NO A/C.” Music with a certain je ne sais quois that makes it sound hot or humid; maybe it’s a wet spring reverb effect, a dubby bassline, a certain sensuality about it.
Having grown up in Miami, there’s a place in my heart for a hot and humid night spent sitting outside with friends, a fan and/or insect repellant, cold drinks, and music. The type of night where the backs of your thighs stick to the chair, thick condensation tumbles dramatically down the sides of your drink, and everyone’s upper lip glistens a bit. This music is for an evening like that. I may continue this theme as a series, who knows.
